Privacy Policy

The short version

• An account needs a username, a working email address and a password. Nothing else is asked for.
• Analytics only runs if you agree to it. Decline and no analytics script is ever loaded — not a cookieless one either.
• You are asked once, and the answer covers both sites.
• Nothing is sold, and nothing is used for advertising.

What we store about you

Your account

Your username, your email address, and your password. The password is stored only as a bcrypt hash — it cannot be read back, by us or by anyone who obtained the database.

The email address is used to activate your account — we send a code to it when you sign up — and to recover the account if you forget your password. That is all it is for: no newsletters, no notifications and no marketing.

Your games

The matches you join, the maps you create, the orders you give in a game, and your record of games played, games won and rating. This is the game itself — it cannot be turned off without turning off play.

We also keep anonymised match statistics after a game finishes, so the game can be balanced. These describe the match, not the person.

Server logs

Our web server records requests in the ordinary way, including IP addresses, timestamps and which page was requested. These logs exist to keep the service running and to investigate abuse, and are not used to build a profile of you.

Cookies and browser storage

Silent Front sets one cookie of its own, and only after you answer the banner: it records whether you agreed to analytics. It is scoped to silentfront.io so that a single answer covers this site and the game, rather than asking you the same question twice. Storing your refusal is the only way to honour it, which is why this one cookie is set regardless of which way you answer.

The game additionally uses your browser’s local storage, which stays on your device:

• Sign-in tokens — so you stay logged in between visits. Cleared when you log out.
• Interface preferences — panel sizes, map position, which announcements you have already seen.

If you have an account, your analytics choice is also stored against it, so it follows you to a new device instead of being asked again.

Analytics

With your consent we use Google Analytics 4 to see which parts of the site and game people actually use. It records the pages you visit, roughly where in the world you are (derived from your IP address), and what browser and device you are on. It sets its own cookies to recognise a returning browser.

This data goes to Google, which acts as our processor and may transfer it outside your country. See Google’s privacy policy.

Consent is the whole gate. Until you accept, the Google script is not downloaded and no request reaches Google from either site. If you decline, the same is true permanently. Not answering counts as declining.

Others who receive data

• DigitalOcean — hosts the servers and the database. All of the above is stored on their infrastructure.
• Google Fonts — the typefaces load from Google’s servers, so your browser contacts Google and Google sees your IP address. This happens on page load, before and regardless of any analytics choice.
• Google Analytics — only after you allow it, as described above.
• ZeptoMail (Zoho) — delivers your activation code and any password-reset email, and so handles your email address. We use their EU service, which keeps that processing inside the EU.
• Discord — only if you follow our Discord link. What happens there is governed by Discord’s own policy.

We do not sell data, share it with advertisers, or pass it to anyone else.

How long it is kept

Account and game data is kept while your account exists. Ask us to delete your account and it goes, along with your email address and your stats. Finished matches you took part in may remain visible to the other players in that match, and anonymised balance statistics are kept indefinitely because they no longer identify you.

Your rights

You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it and your account with it. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time, from the button above or the footer of any page — withdrawing is exactly as easy as agreeing.

Children

Silent Front is not aimed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.

Changes

If this policy changes in substance, the date at the top changes with it. There is no archive of previous versions.
